Two months of hard work from the band and its new MD, Christopher Small, paid off with a pleasing result at the Midlands Regional Brass Band Championships in Bedworth.

Placed 7th out of 24 bands in the Fourth Section, Malvern Hills District Brass Band made a good performance of the set test piece, English Folk Songs Suite (Ralph Vaughan Williams, arr. Frank Wright), after a daunting wait of over 5 hours to play as the final band of the day.

The band has had improving success at this competition over the past 3 years and welcomes the praise and criticism made by this year's adjudicators, Peter Bassano & Mike Kilroy. They listened to 24 performances and had the very difficult job of judging each band in the section.

Both adjudicators noted some tentative playing in our 2nd movement but were enthused by the 1st and 3rd. Mr Bassano complemented us with his comments on the 3rd movement, saying "Good musical intentions here, swaggering, energetic rhythm and compelling dynamics. A very exciting performance."
